Bicester Village

What do Princess Anne, Shilpa Shetty, Stella McCartney, Victoria and David Beckham, Helen Mirren, Ivana Trump, Liz Hurley, The Duchess of Kent, Jerry Hall, Cherie Blair and "Weakest Link" dominatrix Anne Robinson have in common?
They've all bagged a bit of a bargain at Bicester Village.
100 boutique designer outletsDiscount prices in more than 100 chic designer and brand name boutiques have been drawing thrifty fashionistas to Bicester Village, a designer brand outlet mall ten miles from Oxford, for years. They've kept this wonderful place - where everything is at least 30 to 50 per cent off normal prices - almost a secret.
But lately, visitors from Europe and the Far East, are finding their way out from London - an hour away by train - to shop, before exploring nearby Oxford, the Cotswolds and other attractions of the region. They find last season's Diors, Ralph Laurens, Salvatore Ferragamos in a quiet and uncrowded villagey atmosphere.
Bicester Village bills itself as a place for luxury shopping in chic designer boutiques. But it's the savings that bring the customers. Even though goods aren't cheap by any measure, they are much cheaper than in the equivalent shops on Bond Street or Fifth Avenue. And the selection of shops is impressive - ranging from some of the better UK high street brands to a stratosphere of genuine global designer brands.

All of the shops at Bicester Village offer at least 30 to 50 per cent off normal retail prices. But arrive at the change of the season, when shops are making room for next season's goods and savings of 70 to 90 per cent are not unheard of. I bought a skirt from a hugely famous designer that was reduced from £105 to £7.
